A course for the person supporting a stroke survivor — written from the survivor side of it.
Made to sit alongside the treatment and rehab their medical team is already providing.
The thing I remember most is what my family got: nothing
When I had my stroke in 2012, what shocked me most was how few support services there were. Not just for me as the patient — for my wife, as my carer.
She was expected to absorb it. Learn the medications, manage the appointments, hold the household, and work out on her own why the person she had known for years was now distant, short-tempered, and asleep at 2pm.
Nobody sat her down and explained any of it. There was no course, no handout, nothing.
And I couldn’t explain it either. I could see how frightened my family were, and I didn’t have the words to help them. Not because I didn’t care — because I hadn’thing left over.
I’m not a carer. I was the one being cared for.
That’s exactly what makes this different from everything else written for the people supporting a survivor.
Every other resource is written by clinicians, or by other carers. I can tell you what it looked like from the bed — why the fatigue isn’t laziness, why being helped is harder than it looks, and what the silence is usually covering.
Since then I’ve interviewed hundreds of survivors for the Recovery After Stroke podcast, which means this isn’t only my experience. It’s the pattern across a lot of them.
How it works
1. Get instant access. One payment. Straight to your inbox.
2. Start at the beginning. It’s ordered the way recovery actually unfolds, not by topic.
3. Use it to have one conversation. Most people find the value isn’t in the information — it’s in finally having language for something they had been guessing at.
What you get
- The full course, delivered immediately
- Downloadable MP3 audio — genuinely useful for this audience, because carers listen while driving to appointments
- Complete written transcript
- Yours to keep and return to as things change
What this is not
It’s not clinical training, and it won’t tell you what to do about a specific medical situation. That’s the treating team’s job, and you’re entitled to ask them to explain things twice.
It’s not a promise that understanding will make it easier. It usually makes it clearer, which isn’t the same thing.
It’s not a substitute for your own support. Carer support services exist in most countries, are usually free, and your GP is the fastest route to finding them. Please use them — this isn’t a replacement for that.
The difference between “why are they being like this?” and “ah, that’s what that is”
That shift is most of what this course is for.
One thing worth knowing before you buy. This is the same course sold elsewhere on the site as The Road Back From Stroke, and it is included in the four-course bundle. If you already own either of those, you already own this. Don’t buy it twice.
